I love November! It is my favorite month. My birthday is at the beginning and my favorite holiday is at the end. What is not to love!? Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to bring family together and enjoy each other’s company. There is no expectation of gifts which helps authenticate family time. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy Christmas. I mostly love the decorating. It brings me a heavenly amount of joy to transform our home into the Christmas spirit. But back to Thanksgiving. There is something special about the holiday. I actually feel warm inside when I think about Thanksgiving. That sounds weird I know, but do you get “all the feels” when you think about your favorite holiday? Well that is what happens to me. Spending time with family is one of my favorite things and this holiday is specifically designed to deliver that.
Today I want to talk about Thanksgiving traditions. I will first share with you a few of mine, then in the comments below I would really love to hear some of yours!
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is my favorite tradition. We all wake up by 8:00 a.m., grab a cup of coffee, and snuggle on the couch under mounds of blankets. There is a special connection that happens when my husband, daughter, and I are all under the same blanket taking in the splendor of the parade through bright, wide eyes.
November is the start of the holiday puzzle. The card table gets set up in the living room with a 1000 piece puzzle and all throughout the holiday season the puzzle slowly gets put together. There is something relaxing about working on a puzzle. During a time when stress levels can run high the puzzle brings me back down. I really love working on it while watching a Hallmark Christmas movie. It is the perfect combination!
My family typically eats Thanksgiving dinner around 2:00 p.m., allowing all afternoon for the scrumptious meal to digest. Aside from the inevitable nap, we will play a game or two in the late afternoon. Our game stash consists of
That is the majority of the games we own, although I know I am missing a couple. We really like games!
Now that I have shared a few of my family’s traditions what are some of yours? I would love to hear what your family does on the best holiday of the year.
