Today’s post is all about a Pinterest fail. I do not know about you but when I look at DIY/craft activities on Pinterest I always wonder how well will it hold up? The project I am going to share with you today is one of the first Pinterest DIY projects I did. Side Note: I did this project back when Pinterest was “invite” only. Anyone else remember how happy they were to get the invite? I was super pumped and from that moment on Pinterest took all my free time. haha I saw a pin that showed how someone had spray painted their silverware. My first thought was, “This is such a cute idea!” and the thought process basically stopped there. I did not stop to question whether or not it would actually hold up.

So I got the spray paint colors I wanted and got to work. At first, I did not want to put them in the dish washer because I figured it would eat away at the paint. After two years, my husband got tired of always hand washing the silverware and I do not blame him. I caved in and Michael began putting the silverware in the dishwasher. For the past two years, the water pressure and water temperature has slowly removed the paint.

Today, most of the silverware has very little paint on them and lot of the leftover paint falls off into the holders. I would not recommend doing the project. It does not hold up over time and becomes a mess to deal with. We also have to be careful that the paint has not gotten on our hands, which could get on the food and then into our mouths. It has become a real pain. Below are the before and after photos. I was sad that the paint job did not hold up. The silverware drawer looked so pretty when the project was first completed. Now it just looks gross.
