If you have been following the blog for a while you know I do not post too many personal facts about myself. I do share personal experiences both good and bad but personal facts usually do not make the cut. Today I thought I would start a series, maybe (?), getting to know me – a more personal side to Elizabeth Ann. Let me know in the comments if this is something you want to see more on the blog.
Why did you start you blog?
I started my blog back in January 2014, and I did so due to all the negativity that is present in the online world. It seemed as though every where I went someone was posting something mean about a business or person or product. I just remember thinking, “There are so many bitter and angry people out there.” It made me so sad and I decided that since I cannot convince people to stop being angry, that I would create a small corner on the internet where positive and uplifting content would be published.
Side Note: I wrote a post about “Why Love Doing Life”. It gives a little more history behind the blog and why I chose the name.
What is your favorite pizza topping?
My favorite pizza topping is cheese and black olives. No one else in my family likes black olives on their pizza so I rarely get to enjoy it. However, my hubby is incredibly sweet and buys it for me quite often!
Do you and Sweet Hubby want more children?
Yes we do. You wouldn’t believe how many people say, “So you have one girl and one boy, you’re done right?” First of all, I am a firm believer in never guessing a couple’s baby plans. You never know what they have had to go through in that department or if they even want children. It is always best to leave this subject alone. Always let the couple bring it up first. For those of you wondering, yes we do want more children. How many? Not sure. We would love to adopt, so working out all the details will take time. When the day comes that they Lord blesses us with another child we will certainly be happy, until then we are enjoying Baby Sweet and Sweet Bow.
If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?
There are A LOT of people who I would love to meet and talk with but if I had to choose I would say Bob Fosse. For those of you who do not know who Bob Fosse is, he was a choreographer, director, actor, screen writer, film director. He had such a creative eye and I would love to pick his brain about dance and choreography.
I would also love to meet Audrey Hepburn. She was so gorgeous and an amazing actress. I would love to hear stories about her career and her everyday life.
What advice would you give for someone wanting to start a blog?
Starting a blog itself is easy HOWEVER starting a successful blog is not. You need to be prepared to put in hours and hours each week if you want your blog to be successful, and even more time if you want to make money off of it. It is a business and no one “gets famous” and maintains that status overnight. Blogging takes commitment, passion, creativity, knowledge, and time.
Who do you look up to/ who is your role model?
I would say both my mom and dad. First, they have been married for 36 years! They got married when they were 19 and 17, they were high school sweethearts. <3 Second, early on in my parents marriage my dad felt like he needed to leave a comfortable and semi-predictable career at the Kennedy Space Center and go back to college. With three little ones in tow my parents left Florida and thus began his collegiate career. After several years and a bachelor degree, master degree, and doctorate my dad did it. He worked many jobs all while being in school full-time and he was always present. He has made a lot of sacrifices, one of them being sleep, for our family and I am so thankful he did. He has shown me what hard work and determination looks like.
Then you have my mom. She put her career goals aside for about 30 years. While my dad was going to school and being the main bread-winner, she was/still is a stay-at-home mom. She never complained. Not once. Then at 50 years old my mom graduated from Rollins College! She designed her own degree and accomplished a life long dream.
Looking at the examples my parents have set for me, I am encouraged to achieve my goals and dreams. They have always supported me no matter what. When I told them I wanted to major in Dance Education they said, “Alright!” They never once told me I couldn’t do something because it wouldn’t be profitable in the long run or if it wasn’t a good fit for my personality. My passions and creativity were always encouraged and cultivated. I could say a lot more about my parents but this will have to do for now.
What is your guilty pleasure when it comes to food?
Cheesecake! I LOVE cheesecake. I am not a fan of cake and cupcakes but give me a slice of cheesecake and that thing will be gone in a second. Fun fact: my husband and I actually had three cheesecake as our wedding cake. We had my sister make a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake and a Nutella cheesecake and the third one was a plain cheesecake ordered from Juniors, my absolute favorite, in New York City.
What is your guilty pleasure when it comes to entertainment?
One of my guilty pleasures used to be Pretty Little Liars, but then the show just got so ridiculous I had to stop watching. I also love 90’s techno music, haha! It sounds so ridiculous as I type those words but alas it’s true. “Better Off Alone” by Alice Deejay was pretty much on repeat for many months. I also love 90’s pop and dance music.
What is your favorite pastime besides blogging?
It would have to be spending time with my babies and husband. Aside from that, I would say dancing. I wish there were more adult ballet, modern, tap, jazz, hip hop and ballroom classes available in my town. If I could I would be taking classes everyday!
What is one trend you never want to see again?
In terms of a fashion trend, it would have to be shorts with the pockets hanging out the bottom. (insert major eye roll) Seriously ladies, if your pockets are showing then your shorts are too short.
What is your favorite social media platform and why?
Right now my favorite social media platform is Instagram. I love being able to appreciate beautiful photography. Ever since stories were introduced I think it is more fun! Speaking of beautiful photography, I recently recommended four Instagram accounts that you should be following! CLICK HERE to check it out!
If you were to start blogging over again, what would you do differently?
I would do a lot of things differently. First I would have been much more intentional. When I started I did not take it too seriously and did not grow for the longest time. It wasn’t until a year ago that my husband challenged me to be very clear with myself about the future of my blog. I am so glad he did that! It forced me to think long-term and the goals I wanted to achieve. I have hit some major milestones, which is amazing, but I am nowhere near being done. Second, I would network a lot sooner than I did. I waited till I almost hit my three-year mark. Networking is key and it really helps you become a better blogger.
There you have it! My first ever getting to know you post. What did you think? Is this something you want to see fairly regularly on the blog? Would you rather have a Q & A series? I want to know your thoughts!
