On February 13th, I hosted a Galentine’s Brunch. The invitation went out to women who had come into my life at some point in time. There was an eclectic gathering of women and it was perfect! I love bringing people together who, on paper, do not seem like they would get along or have anything in common but turns out have a wonderful time together. The Galentine’s brunch was just that. Ladies who had never met before became friends and enjoyed getting to know one another.
When I plan get togethers I do not have an itinerary for the event, I just like to see how the event progresses. (This strategy has never failed me!) However, with this particular event I wanted these ladies to feel confident and praised for their beauty inside and out. I did not have time to make each lady their own personalized scrap-book, instead I had everyone write on a small chalkboard one thing that they love of themselves. Every lady struggled with this task. As women, we are so used to complaining about ourselves and talking about things we want to change but are seldom encouraged to talk about the things we love about ourselves. Doing this “exercise” if you will, was very therapeutic. I watched ladies encourage each other, list endless positive characteristics about each other, and love on each other. Once each lady landed on a characteristic that suited them, I witnessed a glowing smile come across each of their faces. I am confident that self-esteem issues would decline drastically if this were done everyday! To truly learn to love yourself is hard but you have to start somewhere.
All in all, Galentine’s brunch was a huge success and will definitely plan on doing it again next year!
