After the holiday season has passed, it is very easy to fall into a depressed state. The weather is colder than ever, no Christmas lights to lift the spirit, and the house is bare due to all the decorations being packed away. Feeling down on life is so easy to do during winter time. I have a big tendency to become sad and wish for the holiday season again. To go back to the days of Hallmark movies, hot chocolate and Christmas parties. Since the holiday season cannot be all-year-round I thought I would share 7 ways to turn your winter grey skies to blue!

Take A Bath
Life moves so fast. It seems as though my schedules fills up before I know and we are spending every night working for someone else instead of enjoying family time. Any activity that makes me slow down is a good activity. Taking a bath is a simple and easy way to relax and reset. Toss in a bath bomb or some Epsom salt, light a candle and take a deep breath. This is a great way to improve your mood!
Bake a Pie
Just like taking a bath, baking a pie is a good way to slow down. I love to bake and cook. And now that my daughter is old enough to help me in the kitchen makes the experience truly lovely. Baking a pie or really anything for that matter is a great way enjoy life and lift those spirits post-holidays.
Go See A Movie
There is something magical about the movies. When I get the chance to see a movie, I am always reminded of the opening scene in “Singing In The Rain”. Gene Kelly’s character is sharing his experience in Hollywood and even though it was not ideal it was still special and magical. Movies really do transport a person to a different place. If you are feeling down go to the movies!
Purchase A Pick-Me-Up
Retail therapy is a real thing! The purchase doesn’t have to be extravagant, sometimes even the smallest of treats can make a huge difference. I always feel better after I purchase a decor piece from the Target dollar spot. I mean who doesn’t feel great when they find a great deal in the Target dollar spot?! If you are looking for some ideas you can head over to the shop. Yes, yes. Shameless plug 😉
Dance It Out
One of my favorite ways to lift my spirits is to dance it out. Just like a traditional workout, dancing will produce endorphins which is a natural high. When I had my miscarriage, there would be days where I just needed to have happy music playing to get me off my bum. If I didn’t get up and dance I would have stayed in a depressed state for a long time. Dancing it out really helped bring me out of a sad place.
I like to use the playlist “Dance Your Troubles Away”. This playlist is sure to get your feet moving!
Find A Friend
Being an extrovert, I need other people to recharge and gain energy from. Left to my own devices it can be easy to become a bum, so I love to do activities with my family and friends! Calling the bestie and going out to dinner is a great way to cheer oneself up!
This one is definitely the hardest. Sometimes simply choosing to change my mood from feeling sad to being happy is all it takes. This approach will not work all the time, due to more complex situations but making the conscious effort to choose happiness can put me on the right track. When I choose happiness, I begin to see things differently. Sadness and depression have a way of masking reality and even though choosing to be happy doesn’t solve the issue is helps me view life from a new perspective. Reading a book. Drinking some coffee. Going to your favorite store. The possibilities are endless!
